Divorce

Friends gave her
Handkerchiefs
For tears.
She used them
For every conceivable
Other purpose –
Wrapped her fragile
Bracelets in them,
Used them to protect
The face of her pocket watch,
Folded them decorously
Into her handbag,
Then left
The handbag
At home,
Crying,
When she least expected it,
Over a newspaper article
On the train.
