Norcov.com
provides full-access Unix Shell accounts at a cost of $15/month
unlimited access. This service is ONLY available to local phone customers in the San Francisco Bay Area of California.. Shell accounts are allowed a
maximum of 30 mb of disk space per month. See the Disk-Usage
section for more information on storage costs. You can also set up your
own personal home-page from your shell account.
Please note
that this is not a dedicated service; idle timeouts are set for 15
minutes.
The shell account will allow you
access to a standard Unix shell (bash, by default) allowing you full
access to email, news, and the Internet. A basic knowledge of Unix
fundamentals is required, however we'll do our best to point you in the
right direction so you can find the information you require.
The mail readers available are elm, mush,
pine, and the generic Unix mail program. The trn and tin
news readers are available to access Usenet newsgroups. File transfers can
be accomplished using ftp or ncftp, only your communications
software will need to be robust enough to allow you to transfer the
information back to your system.
A general purpose information browser, Lynx,
is available to connect you to the World Wide Web. While it cannot
download the graphic information, it can help you quickly do some surfing
around the Net!
